"Kick Start"
I fiddle nervously with the zipper on my sweatshirt. “Am I terribly out of shape?” I sheepishly ask my personal trainer.
Regan gives me an amused looking smile. “Not terribly. And like I said: you wouldn’t be in here if you weren’t trying to accomplish something!” she says brightly.
Great. Now I may be new to this whole personal training thing, but I’m pretty sure what I’ve just experienced is PT-lingo for “Yep, but we’re gonna work on it!”
The truth is, a three session kick-start package, though undeniably valuable in and of itself, is barely going to make a dent in my twenty-one year, half-assed workout regime. I’ve been a life-long fan of short lived/hard core work out stints, followed by months of leisurely laziness.
I don’t want to do that anymore.
You’re going to be standing in front of hundreds of people in a two piece bathing suit.
You’re going to be standing in front of hundreds of people in a two piece bathing suit.
I repeat it over and over again in my head, hoping that somehow this mantra will help motivate me to actually do something about my current eating/lazing habits. Not to mention the fact that by creating a healthier lifestyle now, I can in many ways help to ensure that I will be able to enjoy said lifestyle much longer in the future.
I’ve never been a big fan of our image-crazed society. I don’t believe in dieting (especially starving) or weighing myself. I fully promote self-confidence and NATURAL beauty (curves and all). None of this has changed. But what I’m looking for now is that kind of intrinsic motivation that pushes through the cherry pie cravings, past the gentle whisperings of “America’s Next Top Model” marathons and my deliciously comfortable bed, and through the searing pain I feel every time I do one more push-up than I’m used to.
I finally feel like I can do it! So this is a thank you to all of those who have doubted me or somehow caused me to doubt myself: you’ve added extra fuel to my fire and I’m going to prove to everyone that I can be a better, sexier, healthier me.*
