Prayers for Peru

My heart is so broken as I type this.

I just learned Hogar de Esperanza, the orphanage I served at this summer, was robbed...again.

Last time, the armed robbers broke into the rancho, which is an additional building apart from the orphanage property, where large volunteer groups are housed.  The volunteer group at the time was on an outing, but the vigilante (guard) and his family were held at gunpoint while the men ransacked the volunteer rooms and took their belongings.  Thankfully, no one was harmed, though the vigilante and his family were so traumatized by the event (rightfully so), they moved out of the building and into a safer location.

Still, we praised God that the protective walls around the orphanage had served their purpose and the children were safe and unaware.

This time, armed men entered those protective walls and onto the volunteer floor.  The very floor where I slept just a few precious months again.  My dear friends were held against their will while these men took all of their belongings, as well as their peace of mind.  I do not know many details beyond that, but what I do know is again no one was harmed (except for the beloved dog, Treci, who was tragically poisoned and killed) and again, the children were left alone.

The men did not enter the houses where my sweet babies slept.

I will choose to praise Him for sparing these children from even more trauma than they have already experienced, but I will not pretend this kind of evil doesn't break my heart.  I yearn to offer comfort and peace to my friends.  To encourage their broken spirits and ensure them of their safety.

But I can't.

I can't fix this.  I can't take back the experience.  I can't erase the fear.  I can't even replace the stolen items.  The earthly items, as well as the precious photos and memories.

All I can do is pray.  This world is so broken.  We need less of us and so so much more of Him.

Will you please join me in praying?  For peace, for comfort, for rest, for courage, for love.

Psalm 62:1-2 "Find your rest in God alone; your salvation comes from Him.  He alone is your rock and your salvation; He is your fortress, you will never be shaken."
